The ice-pattern effect on aluminum composite panels is primarily achieved through specialized surface coating techniques, most commonly using crackle paint (also known as ice-crack paint). The core principle relies on the physical stress generated during the curing process of the paint.
Typically, the process involves applying a flexible base coat first, followed by a topcoat. As the base coat dries and shrinks at a greater rate than the topcoat, the resulting stress pulls the surface layer apart, forming intricate, natural-looking cracks that resemble ice crystals or frost.
To enhance the visual depth and texture, manufacturers often use multi-layer spraying. A base color is applied first, followed by a special effect coat containing metallic particles (such as aluminum powder). By carefully controlling parameters like spraying distance, angle, and paint dilution, a highly realistic and three-dimensional ice pattern is created. Additionally, there are eco-friendly water-based versions of this paint available, which operate on the same stress-difference principle but offer better environmental protection.
